a poetic visit

Maya Angelou is coming to Portland on June 2, 2010
and I'll be sitting in the audience,
fascinated.

Do you have a favorite book of hers?

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”

“I’ve learned that making a "living" is not the same thing as making a "life.”

“I can be changed by what happens to me.
But I refuse to be reduced by it.”

"I've learned that you shouldn't go through life with a catcher's mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw something back."

"My great hope is to laugh as much as I cry; to get my work done and try to love somebody and have the courage to accept the love in return."

"The idea is to write it so that people hear it and it slides through the brain and goes
straight to the heart."

"The need for change bulldozed a road down the center of my mind."

"While I know myself as a creation of God, I am also obligated to realize and remember that everyone else and everything else are also God's creation."

“I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it.” I have that quote taped to the inside of one of my kitchen cabinets. Love her! You are one lucky girl!

Oh, I'm a big fan of hers. That will be a choice experience I'm sure. Yay for you!

“You must write every single day of your life... You must lurk in libraries and climb the stacks like ladders to sniff books like perfumes and wear books like hats upon your crazy heads... may you be in love every day for the next 20,000 days. And out of that love, remake a world.” ― Ray Bradbury
