Coloring the Canvas

I've been dreaming up Brooklynn's room for nearly three years now,
and finally, as we are in our new home I can get to work!
It's about time!

One thing has remained constant over the years--
her room must have lots of bold, rich color,
and I think Anna Marie Horner's Garden Party has won my heart!

Now it's time to decide exactly which fabrics to choose, or to use more of--
purples, pinks, oranges, blue etc., and what pattern to use.
I'm quite fond of hourglass blocks, like in the second to last picture.

The only trouble is is that she has two twin beds in her room, which means two quilts.
Fortunately, the bedroom set, which we got from my parents before they moved out of state,
is darling, and will make a perfect backdrop to some fun, funky prints!

Remember this photo?

Bring on the funk!

Any ideas fabric or pattern ideas?  Please do share!
Amber?  You've gotta have something?!

I loooove the color combo in the last picture! I so totally agree with you about a room needing lots of rich color!

Well this is a tough one isn't it. The entire Garden Party line is one of my fav's and I have made quite a few things from it. I happen to love the fabric with the multi colored squares( dance floor? I can't remember what it is called)as a quilt binding...so cool. The color scheme on the top reminds me of red velvet cupcakes. I love them all so I can't really help you decide but I think those beds are asking for something bright and funky.

It is so darn tough!
One thing I know for sure is that anything resembling red velvet cupcakes I like! :)

I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee the last one, but that's because i'm a big fan of purples. However, each one is gorgeous!!! I'm stealing these ideas for my daughters room. She LOVES bold colors, that's all she points at when we're out and about!

I also love picture #4. And with the white bedroom furniture i believe any of these patterns will go.

Now you say there are 2 twin beds so i think the best thing to do is either go with the same quilt on both beds OR choose 2 different quilt patterns in the same color scheme.

Keep us posted, I want to see pics of the finished product.

Oh I love the garden party range, I think that would be great for a funky little girls room (or mine for that matter, fancy making a third quilt?)

I'd love to do more quilting but fabric (decent fabric) is really expensive in England. I've just found out about a quilters club though so I will have to go along, maybe the more seasoned quilters will know where to get it cheaper!

Can't wait to see what you finish up with! X

Loredana--I didn't think about two different quilts in the same color scheme. Something to think about. I still haven't narrowed much down, but at least I know the fabric line!!

Kat-I wonder why the fabric is so expensive there? I am not the fastest quilter, so making a third quilt would be rough...but I definitely know a couple women who could make a quilt for you.

Oh this is a hard one, sista. (and P.S. sorry I didn't get here sooner. I have taken a few days away from blogging to get some things done, but it sounds like you've got a real emergency on your hands :) so I'm here now.) Anyways, maybe I'm not a big purple person, so I kind of like the warm pinks, browns, and golds. I love the fabrics in the first picture and third, but then I also like the second picture and the fifth too (that probably didn't help much.) I like the idea of two different patterns for the two beds. The string quilt (5th picture) would be easy to make as I am making one very similar to it right now and it is very simple - so you might like that. I will think of some other patterns too. I'll have to get back to you about that. Fun things to think about though!

xoxo

“You must write every single day of your life... You must lurk in libraries and climb the stacks like ladders to sniff books like perfumes and wear books like hats upon your crazy heads... may you be in love every day for the next 20,000 days. And out of that love, remake a world.” ― Ray Bradbury
