Sloppy Joes

We don't do boxed dinners around here, unless it's Macaroni and Cheese, and that is usually set aside for the sitter, or when Husband is out of town.  So when Husband said he wanted something like "Hamburger Helper" last night, I gasped, and then had recipe revelation.

Sloppy Joes from scratch!!  No packages here!

Sloppy Joes
adapted from allrecipes

1 lb. lean, ground beef
1/4 C. chopped onion
1/4 C. chopped green bell pepper
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. yellow mustard (tonight I used Dijon because it's all I had)
3/4 C. ketchup
3 tsp. brown sugar
salt to taste
ground black pepper to taste

Directions:

1. In a medium skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, onion, and green pepper; drain off liquids.

2. Stir in the garlic powder, mustard, ketchup, and brown sugar; mix thoroughly.  Reduce heat, and simmer for 30 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

3. While you are simmering the meat, Slice open your favorite buns, put them in the oven to crisp, and near the end, add a slice of cheese.

Quick, fresh, easy and delicious!

P.S. If you don't have buns, make biscuits.  They're just as good!

I seriously said yesterday to my mom that I needed a homemade sloppy jo's recipe because that stuff out of the can is disgusting. Thanks for reading my mind and posting this!

I never understood what a sloppy Joe was but it's mince in a bap! A revelation =) I'm all up for quick recipes though x

“You must write every single day of your life... You must lurk in libraries and climb the stacks like ladders to sniff books like perfumes and wear books like hats upon your crazy heads... may you be in love every day for the next 20,000 days. And out of that love, remake a world.” ― Ray Bradbury
