Sweet baby treats

The other week,
I made these tiny animal sugar cookies for a baby shower.
Tiny was perfect for two reasons:
1) animal crackers are tiny
2) they accompanied an entire table of other mouth watering goodies!
Tiny was not perfect for one main reason:
1) it took FOREVER!!

But they sure were cute.

The little ones loved them, too.

I figure once my mind has forgotten how long these little animals took, I just might make another batch for the kids.  I'll let them do the decorating, and leave the piping and filling out of it.

I followed direction and decorated the cookies according to the shower color scheme.
My friend, Gaby, knows how to throw an awesome shower!
It was darling!

She sent the most precious invites,
and used the same colors to decorate for the shower.

I love all the little touches of green and yellow.

It turned out SO cute!

My friend knows how to bake, too.  Seriously.  See for yourself:

She made all these finger-lickin-good treats by herself!
They were delicious.
Unfortunately, I had to decline when she tried to send some extras home with me.
I splurged when I had dessert for dinner that night.
Talk about a good night!

And a cute mama!
Congrats Kristian!
He'll be here any time!

a subliminal message

Notes from the baker:

If you should ever need fish cookies, do not start the process the morning of they are needed. Especially when they are needed at noon, for a party at a very nice restaurant, AND you've never used royal icing before.
Also, I'd like to suggest you have a sitter while you are creating such a mess in your kitchen and if you must deliver said cookies. Period.

And now the reason for the sweet treats--besides the fact that the party was Hawaiian themed, and that this family wants me to make sugar cookies for every possible occasion:

Dear Friend Since Second Grade,

I've made these for you today to remind you that there are plenty of fish in the sea. Well, mainly to remind you he's a douchebag, isn't cutting it, and never will. I know I've already tried to sugar-coat this matter before, when I gave you my copy of He's Just Not that Into You, almost five years ago, with some heart sugar cookies and lots of love--but it apparently wasn't enough. Wait you didn't lose that did you? I suspect one is in need of a re-read.

So here I've done it again--sending you sweet subliminal messages in cookie form, with hopes that your 27th year brings you a new school of fish to flounder around with, and finally a great catch!

Looking forward to a keeper!

Your friend forever,

cbm

Cookies & Eye-Candy

Today has been a rather uneventful day. Earlier, I imagined getting the kiddos and myself ready to go out and visit some shops, but then talked myself out of it because I really shouldn't spend any money. Last week N and I picked up a comforter at my new favorite store Anthropologie--note--the website does not do the store justice. How I had missed this treasure of a store until now, is baffling. Every shelf, table, and rack presents something beautiful and intricately created. Utter eye-candy. I am in love. So, instead of rushing out to hit up some shops, the kiddos and I stayed in our jammies far too long, played pretend in the playroom, painted, read books, and made these...

Day 12--Sugar Cookie Flower Bouquet

Today, I decided to get my trustee old sugar cookie recipe out and whip up some sweet treats for the special women in my life. I've been wanting to get creative with my cookies for a while now, so today I did just that. I envisioned making a cookie bouquet and even got them to bake on shish kabob sticks. I used the food coloring to make the sticks look more like stems.

Here you see...

The final product--and it turned out like I hoped, luckily...

Now the question is...cookie bouquet or flower bouquet? Tough question right? ;)

“You must write every single day of your life... You must lurk in libraries and climb the stacks like ladders to sniff books like perfumes and wear books like hats upon your crazy heads... may you be in love every day for the next 20,000 days. And out of that love, remake a world.” ― Ray Bradbury
